How to determine the quality of microfiber towels?

Microfiber Towels are so popular for multi-purpose cleaning, drying and detailing. But how do you know that you are receiving the quality you are paying for? Here are two important points to keep in mind while shopping for quality microfiber towels!

COMPOSITION:

Microfiber products by Eurow® are woven from conjugated fibers composed of polyester and polyamide. They are superior to single-material microfibers due to their unique split-fiber construction. During the manufacturing process, the microfiber is split, producing a multi-stranded fiber with a finer diameter than a human hair. These microfilaments effectively lift debris and trap it in the spaces between them, locking up to 99% of dirt, dust, viruses and bacteria deep within the cloth’s fibers. The ratio of polyester to polyamide composition is a good indicator of the quality of microfiber. Our towels are typically made from 80% Polyester and 20% Polyamide. This is a standard indicator of quality as low quality, cheap towels would be made of 100% polyester (or sometimes 95/5). We also have a 70% Polyester and 30% Polyamide Towel (Made in Korea), that is super soft and ultra absorbent owing to the increased amount of Polyamide in the composition.

A lot of fraudulent practices are common place in this matter of  composition of Polyester/Polyamide in towels. Even when the label or tag on the towel says 80/20 the manufacturers might still be cutting corners and cost by using only 95/5 or even sometimes 100% Polyester. That is why it is important to make sure you shop your towels from a trusted source to ensure that you are getting the quality paid for.

GSM (GRAMS PER SQUARE METER):

The standard measurement for weight and quality of fabrics is grams per square meter, usually abbreviated as GSM. The higher the GSM, higher is the quality of the towel for specific purposes like auto detailing. Most microfiber towels found in the market are 150 to 450 GSM.  And at Eurow® we have Towels ranging from 200 to 780 GSM.

Now, how do you calculate GSM?

  • Find the surface area of the towel by multiplying the length and width in meters.
  • Divide the weight of the towel in grams by the surface area and the resulting number is the GSM of that towel.

We have a GSM CALCULATOR on our website that will allow you to easily calculate the GSM of a towel you are looking for when you simply input the dimensions.

Picking out the microfiber towels for your particular use won't be hard if you keep the above points in mind.
